SHIFTS:

Shifts vary. 

Looking for individuals that have had some experience with team build and/or high ropes course.

JOB SUMMARY:         

The Challenge Course Facilitator will be responsible for the supervision of climbers on the Challenge Course. To make sure that everyone follows safety standards and rules of the YMCA.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

This individual needs to be at least 16 years old and have a good understanding of the high and low ropes facilitating.  In addition, they must have a good understanding of all equipment used. This individual must familiarize themselves with YMCA rules and policies.  They must be certified in CPR/AED, First Aid and Ropes Course facilitation in the first 90 days of employment.  Within 90 days of hire, Preventing Sexual Abuse Between Praise and Encouragement, and Foundations of Listen First trainings required.  Within 6 months of hire, Engaging with Families training required.  Get SMART preferred. 

SPECIAL SKILLS OR EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:

The Rope Challenge Course Facilitator must be able to ensure that the program runs smoothly, safely and that participants grow through positive interaction. Strong communication skills are required.  Experienced climbers are preferred.   They will have an understanding of the program's philosophy and goals, and the relationship between the program's activities and those goals.  They will be able to demonstrate sensitivity and maturity appropriate to the ages and skill levels of the participants.

PHYSICAL AND/OR MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

This individual needs to be able to lift and carry 50 pounds.  If individual must left and carry more than 50 pounds, they must ask for assistance from another staff member.  Also may be required to stand and work outside exposed to the sun for extended periods of time while demonstrating physical stamina and agility.

JOB DUTIES: 

  1. Facilitate Ropes Course activity.
  2. Exhibit common sense, good judgment, and safety awareness at all times.
  3. Supervise volunteers and members to make sure they are following all safety standards & personal policy at all times set by the YMCA.
  4. Maintain ropes, repairs and maintenance logs.
  5. Attend all staff meeting and trainings.
  6. Assist in training volunteers about new standards or rules.
  7. Follow all safety standards and personal policy set by the YMCA.
  8. Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct.  Keep a clean appearance of the ropes course and storage room at all times.
