Title:              Youth Development Quality Advancement and Training Director
Reports to:     Vice President of Youth Development
FLSA Status:   Exempt
Salary Range: $46,350 to $52,144 annually

Supervises:     Curriculum Director and Behavior Specialist

Position Summary

As a member of the leadership team, in an Association actively engaged in many national Y initiatives, this position is responsible for advancing the quality in all Youth Development programs. They promote, evaluate and take action to improve all Youth Development programs including Before and Afterschool Programs, Day Camp and Kids Zone. They will identify the areas of need and develop a plan to implement successful opportunities.

This position will take the lead on development of staff and volunteers by coordinating the annual training calendar, recruiting trainers as well as facilitating trainings. They will provide academic advancement to the children we serve by ensuring quality curriculum and activities are provided to those we serve.

In addition, they provide support to fundraising and community collaborations. They will position the Y as a cause-driven organization throughout the community. The Youth Development Quality Advancement Director also provides direction and leadership advancing quality for the achievement of Association goals in accordance with the policies, procedures and standards established by the Board.

Core and Strategic Functions

*High Quality Programs, Services and Facilities

    • Promote, evaluate and ensure quality of all Youth Development programs to identify high level programming that supports each child we serve.
    • Conduct and review principal surveys to ensure quality and identify steps needed for improvement and then execute measures to improve results.
    • Take the lead on the annual Training calendar, recruiting trainers as well as facilitating trainings.
    • Ensure with Curriculum Specialist that quality programs with academic component is being delivered to the children we serve. It should promote learning/bridge the gap, character development, healthy living and positive, nurturing relationships.
    • Utilize the Behavior Specialist to provide an environment for all children to be successful by conducting and documenting observations, providing feedback to staff, monitor behavior incidents and patterns, and support the implementation of social and emotional curriculum. The Behavior Specialist plays a critical role in providing support and resources to children in our care, their families, and program staff.
    • Support, help develop and conduct a wide variety of high quality programs and activities that maximize the facilities available.
    • Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct. Ensure the safety and maintenance of high quality facilities, grounds, and equipment by keeping supplies organized, maintain and clean facility and care for equipment

Staff and Volunteer Management 

  • Develop staff through use of Leadership Competency Model resources that create a culture of cause-driven leaders


  • Prepare annual budget for approval by the Vice President
  • Recommend adjustments, report on variances and administer the budget
  • Explore grant opportunities, apply as appropriate and report as required

Community Development

  • Represent and promote the YMCA in the local community and develop positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  • Promote and communicate the objectives and programs of the YMCA through public communication media
  • Actively participate at schools, school districts, community organizations and community events

Financial Development

  • Incorporate storytelling in an effort to advance our mission and cause
  • Participate in Annual Campaign efforts
  • Identify and recruit Annual Campaign volunteers
  • Lead and/or participate in branch special events for fund raising or mission advancement

Operating Values

  • Serve as a member of leadership team and support the association objectives of the YMCA

Position Qualifications


     High School Diploma or equivalent required
     Florida Director Credential required
     Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred

Work Experience

            Minimum of 5 years experience in related field required
            Minimum of 3 years YMCA experience in management or supervision preferred

Certificates/License (currently have valid or must obtain within 90 days and maintain)

            Must meet YMCA of the Suncoast driving criteria
            Y-USA Team leader or Multi Team Leader Certification preferred
            CPR/First Aid required


            Stand or site for extended periods of time
            Remain outdoors for extended periods of time
            Squat, stoop or bend into awkward positions and lift and carry up to 50 pounds
            Visual and auditory observation of staff, volunteers and members


            Must be able to multi task
            Must be able to manage and cultivate relationships
            Must have a high level of emotional maturity
