SHIFT:  Must be available weekends. 
Available shifts: 
Saturday 6:30am-1:00pm and 1:00pm - 6:30pm
Sunday 10:30am-2:30pm and 2:30pm-6:30pm

RATE OF PAY:  $11.60/hr + possible incentives


The Cause Driven Leader on Duty will be responsible for engaging members and staff using the Y's service and engagement principles as well as being responsible for the overall supervision of the YMCA building and grounds.  This person must be able to supervise staff and volunteers and make sure that everyone follows safety standards and policies of the YMCA of the Suncoast.  In addition, ensure that every member of staff is building relationships by following the S.M.A.R.T. pledge.


The Cause Driven Leader on Duty must possess the competence and confidence to supervise a safe environment for all members, program participants, volunteers and staff. They must be responsible and at least 21 years of age and have the ability to cooperate and work with other YMCA staff to provide a quality environment. They must demonstrate good communication and problem solving skills along with a good understanding of the operation of the physical plant.  Also, they must be certified in CPR/AED and First Aid upon hire,  properly trained in basic pool rescue and have the skills, knowledge and genuine willingness to assume a visible presence in the facility.  Upon hire, YUSA HIPAA training required.  Within 90 days of hire, Foundations of Listen First, Intro to the Ys Cause and Culture, Giving A Cause Driven Tour and Post Workshop Evaluation, and Cause Driven Leader On Duty trainings required.  Within 6 months of hire, Get SMART, Living our Cause, Experience Storytelling, and Engaging with Families trainings required.  They must complete training on Facility Operations.  High School graduate or equivalent required.


This individual must familiarize themselves with YMCA rules and policies.   Since this position is dealing directly with members, program participants, volunteers and staff in a position of authority, above average verbal communication skills are required.


This individual needs to be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.  If individual must lift and carry more than 50 pounds, they must ask for assistance from another staff member.  This individual may be required to stand for extended periods of time while demonstrating physical stamina and agility.  The Cause Driven Leader on Duty must be friendly and professional at all times.

In the absence of any other YMCA Director or Coordinator, the Cause Driven Leader on Duty will be:

Responsible for all programs and facility operations of the branch.

  • Reviewing that all staff are at their assigned posts and reporting any discrepancies
    (i.e., scheduling conflicts) to the proper department head.
  • Responsible for addressing all membership related concerns as the "first point of contact".  Follow up with the proper department head.
  • Engaging members using the Y's service and engagement principles during their CDLOD shift.
  • Identifying member experiences that show our cause during their CDLOD shift.
  • Remind staff of ways to demonstrate our cause and use on-the-spot recognition.
  • Responsible for completing an end of shift CDLOD report and communicating this report to all other CDLOD's and Executive Director.

Responsible for the opening/closing of the branch facility as well as monitoring security procedures and facility operations, during their assigned shift.

  • Follows prescribed opening and closing protocol.
  • Primary responder to all security and fire alarms.
  • Primary responder to all facility operation incidents.
  • Reviews all "incident reports" filed during their shift.

Summary statement:

The Cause Driven Leader on Duty will act as the senior staff liaison.  They will determine when to contact senior management regarding matters of program/membership delivery and facility operations.


  1.  Build relationships while following the S.M.A.R.T. pledge when working with other YMCA members, program participants, volunteers and staff.
  2. Always wear the YMCA staff shirt and staff name tag, and SMART pin.
  3. Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity that may lead to child abuse or may violate the code of conduct.  Assists all staff in taking responsibility for all equipment and supplies used, helping maintain good working conditions, inventory, and clean-up after all activities.
  4. Follows all YMCA safety and personnel policies.
  5. Maintains a clean facility appearance at all times.
  6. Reports any maintenance or repair needs to the appropriate Director.
  7. Maintains and distributes first aid supplies as needed. Follows established YMCA policy and guidelines in the event of accident or injury.  This includes the filing of incident reports and the notification to the appropriate department head.
